"Target Four-ever" Birthday
You better believe I’ve been wanting to do a Target party for B since our first trip together when she was still so tiny. We spent so many mornings there perusing the aisles, cake pops and coffee in hand, and I wanted to recreate some of that magic for her 4th birthday. I mean what could be better than popcorn, cake pops, and an unlimited shopping spree of your own personal Target?!
The most important part of recreating Target was the actual store setup. Because we kept it a small party this year of just family, and the only other kiddo was B’s cousin, this was a lot more doable. With a bigger group at this young age, you might have a harder time pulling off the “shopping spree” activity without total chaos. We already had the cube storage, and I purchased the grocery store playset (everything linked at the end of the post) for the party. It came together with red plastic bins, snacks and pantry items from Good & Gather, and a few party favor toys like mini Playdough, suction balls, bath bombs, and even two Barbie dolls that matched our color scheme perfectly (Pink hair and red outfits?! Sold.) The balloon installation was made by a local shop - Love of Character.
B and her cousin were each given a pretend RedCard and shopping cart, and were instructed to “check out” when they were ready. They had so much fun that they kept coming back later to buy more goodies, each girl playing register for the other.
B’s cake was made by the talented September Moon Cupcakery. We also had cake pops from Target’s Starbucks (the only place you can find the Bullseye dog cake pops) and popcorn made fresh that morning!
I loved all the Target party inspo I found, but none that I saw had this exact color scheme (red & light pink). B’s so obsessed with pink, so I knew incorporating pink with the Target red would make it more “her.” We went with the lighter “Starbucks cake pop pink,” and it looked perfect with the bold red. I even found Barbies that matched!
The little price tags were all made by me and printed at home. I thought they added a fun realistic element! Also every snack and pantry item was ordered from Target - the packaging was all so simple and well-designed that it looked perfect all put together. I ended up throwing in some real food from our kitchen like bananas, apples, and avocados in some little plastic baskets we had from a party a few years ago.
I spray painted a plastic shopping cart we’d had for a long time, and the grocery playset also came with a shopping cart so both girls had their own carts. The only thing we were missing was mini Starbucks cups for them to hold, but they needed both hands to shop anyways! ;)
Because B is such a big fan of imaginative play, we’ve left her Target store set up (with the cube storage moved behind the register now to consolidate) for now. She loves grabbing Jackson’s diapers for me, so she has a few diapers, wipes, and other useful items mixed in with grocery/food toys that she can purchase when we need them.
