Local Feature: Watermark Books
Welcome to my favorite sandwich place in town - Watermark Books & Cafe! It’s been a part of Wichita since 1977, and my grandma swears they have the best tomato bisque in town. I grew up coming here for books, coffee, and, of course, sandwiches. They even make specialty shakes like my brother’s go-to Dr. Pepper shake. It’s a classic for a reason, and I’m so excited to share it finally.
Watermark always has a great kids and seasonal section. I used to come as a little girl after surviving yearly doctor visits, and it’s still such a treat for little ones. They also do a weekly storytime on Tuesdays!
This has always been an excellent place to find unique books and local Wichita reads, but they’ve really amped up their game in recent years to include plenty of ICT art and swag for shoppers. I love coming in here to find gifts for family during the holiday season. We do a Secret Santa book exchange with the kids on my side of the family, so Watermark is always a great spot for that because their kids’ section is so well organized PLUS they gift wrap (year-round, I might add!)
B loved the tomato bisque (she has the funniest eating faces). Another must-try on the menu? The Great Expectations sandwich will knock your expectations out of the water. My personal favorite is the Who Moved My Veggie-Cheese sandwich. Their focaccia bread is insanely good, and yes all of their sandwiches on the menu are named after famous books!
Watermark Books & Cafe is open Monday - Friday 7-8 and Satuday’s 7-5. They also have a great website with tons of inventory online as well: https://www.watermarkbooks.com/
