Wichita Furniture & Mattress SuperStore — and so the storey begins

If you’ve been following along here for awhile, you may already know that my husband’s family started the Wichita Furniture & Mattress store here in Wichita back in 1989. Back then it was called Furniture On Consignment, and that’s the name I knew well growing up in town. The store went through a rebrand that I was a part of in 2015 to the name it is now. True story - that cute little WF chair icon started as a sketch on my napkin at a dinner with my in-laws. Now it’s on the front of the largest furniture store in Wichita, KS. We’re a locally owned and operated company, and I’m excited to share the photos with you because I know personally the hard work and level of detail that went into making the SuperStore as fantastic as it is.

Immediately when you come into the store, it feels like you’ve stepped outside of Wichita. There are clear, vibrant signs above every area that guide you where you need to go. The footprint of this building is massive - the brand slogan “More CHOICES, Bigger SAVINGS!” fits this new store better than ever before. There’s a level of detail that makes the entire shopping experience exceptional.

When Jordan and I started dating, I was not a believer in owning a quality mattress. The first time I ever told him I thought mattresses were expensive, he looked me in the eye and said “How many hours a year do you think you spend in your bed sleeping? A good mattress is an investment.” I mean, he’s not wrong. The team brought that same level of intentionality to the Mattress Showroom where brand names like Purple, Temper-pedic and Stearns and Foster are displayed for customers to try out and see for themselves how each one feels. I personally love the BedGear pillows that help support your preferred way of sleeping whether it be back, stomach, or side sleeping.

The Local Makers section was a project I had been talking about doing for awhile. We have such an amazing community of artisans and craftsmen here locally, and I wanted to highlight that with Wichita-centric pieces. The artists are all living and working in the Wichita area, and the bios go into detail about each featured maker. I love that you can turn the corner in a SuperStore shopping experience and see an oil painting of the Wacky Shack from Joyland. It’s a reminder that the company is locally owned and operated, committed to this community in many ways.

We took a break from shopping to have a cookie baked fresh at Chuck’s Cafe.

The kids had a blast shopping the Baby & Kids section. There’s something for every stage of childhood - from infants to toddlers to big kids. They also carry a variety of different products made for children aside from beds and bedroom essentials, including a foam play couch, a JEEP wagon, bassinets and more.

The selection has only gotten more varied with the addition of the SuperStore. Jordan’s been texting me photos for the past year of all the incredible new pieces that are coming from market, and they are all on-trend and still in an affordable price-point. They carry a variety of name brands - many are exclusively carried by Wichita Furniture & Mattress locally.

What I love about this store is that you can pop in and look around for smaller items like home decor. If you’re searching for the perfect something to finish a shelf, this is the place. Wichita Furniture & Mattress has a Marketplace section dedicated just to home decor. It has everything from wall art to decorative objects to faux plants and more. The rug selection is also fantastic. They carry a variety of brands to look through, including Loloi and Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines.

The Outdoor Furniture section of the store is like stepping into an oasis. The showroom has plenty of natural light with added lifestyle elements so you can truly picture what your furniture would look like in your own backyard.
